Mission & Vision

Embodying Georgia Tech’s commitment to global engagement, the First-Year Semester Abroad (FYSA) Program leverages Georgia Tech’s global campuses and programs to provide a high quality, unique, immersive learning opportunity for students who wish to internationalize their college career and experience the draw of global citizenship through hands-on experience.

There are two FYSA program tracks: FYSA @ GTE, hosted by Georgia Tech’s European Campus (GT Europe or GTE) in Metz, France, and FYSA @ Oxford, where students =study and live at one of the Colleges of the University of Oxford in England and spend a section of the program continuing coursework as they travel throughout continental Europe.

Goals

  • To provide an immersive program to a cohort of exceptional students who wish to expand their intellectual and cultural horizons, gain intercultural sensitivity skills, and deepen their understanding of new cultures.
  • To give students the option of travel without sacrificing typical first-year degree requirements.
  • Ensure a safe, structured, and unique learning environment that immerses students in new cultures, exposes them to European perspectives on global issues, and challenges them to become adventurous, mindful learners.
  • Offer experiential, travel-based learning opportunities and co-curricular enrichment.
