Oxford Program Leadership

FYSA Oxford

Program staff

Faculty Director

Shannon Dobranski, Ph.D.

Director of FYSA – Oxford

In this role, Shannon will oversee the curriculum for FYSA@Oxford, maintain relationships with our colleagues at Oxford’s Mansfield College and with our tour partners in Europe, and teach one class during the in-Oxford portion. She will additionally help to recruit incoming first-year students for the program. Shannon will continue in her position as Director of Pre-Graduate and Pre-Professional Advising.

With 26 years at Georgia Tech, Shannon brings a wealth of experience to the position. She has taught dozens of sections of ENGL 1101 and 1102—most recently, during last year’s inaugural FYSA@Oxford cohort. Formerly, she coordinated the Italian Film Studies program for the School of Literature, Media, and Communication, traveling to Italy to support students who combined classroom instruction with documentary filmmaking. Her work with academic advising, pre-professional advising, and academic success will complement her strengths in teaching and administration.

Shannon says she is especially excited to incorporate her knowledge of Shakespeare in her writing instruction for the program because Oxford is near Shakespeare’s birthplace, and theatrical productions abound in Oxford, Stratford, and nearby London. She is also looking forward to continuing her work with the dedicated professionals already attached to the FYSA@Oxford program. She will collaborate with First-Year Semester Abroad Program and Operations Manager Cassy McInnis, as well as Jennifer Lux, who will teach in Oxford, offer administrative support, and provide guidance to students and faculty as they tour continental Europe. She is also proud to join Georgia Tech’s tradition of excellence in Oxford established by outgoing Faculty Director Carole Moore.
